Personal:
Pastor Steve was born in Tampa, Florida and is the oldest of eight children. Having been raised in a military family, he has lived in several states and was in Tripoli, Libya (Africa) for three and a half years. He spent his teen years in LaPlata, Maryland. Several years after high school, Steve joined the Air Force. This was during Vietnam and he was stationed at Charleston Air Force Base. During his time in Charleston, he met Dranthia (Dee), a native Charlestonian, and they were married in July 1971. They have two children: Kimberley Wilson who lives in Summerville, SC with her husband, Keith, and Shane Bice who lives in Gainesville, Florida. Steve and Dee enjoy their seven grandchildren.
Education/Ministry:
Steve accepted his call into the ministry while a member of Old Fort Baptist Church in Summerville, SC. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Technology and worked in the computer industry for 14 years before being called into the ministry. Steve graduated from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC receiving a Master's of Divinity and Religious Education. He completed his doctorate at Covington Theological Seminary in Rossville, Georgia.
Pastor Steve served in two churches prior to coming to First Baptist. While in seminary, he served as Pastor of Living Clay Baptist Church in Henderson, NC. Upon graduating, he served as Pastor of El Bethel Baptist Church in Morganton, NC. Steve came to FBC in September 1990, as Associate Pastor of Education and Administration. When Rev. Frank Ling retired, he was called to minister with Senior Adults and filled that ministry for fourteen years. Steve now serves as Associate Pastor of Adults where most of his responsibility is with the education and Sunday School ministries.
Passion:
Steve has a heart for caring about others and what is going on in their lives today--ministry. Through his caring for others, he demonstrates the love of Christ. He has a vision for what the church can be and that vision equates to the purpose of the Church.
Interesting Fact:
Steve's hobbies are carpentry and yard work. (He wants to be the next Ty Pennington.) Steve says, "I love building and creating things and I love to see the fruits of my labor. I like to help and do for others |
